Licensed structural engineer with 7 years designing commercial, institutional, and multi-family buildings in a high-seismic region, currently the engineer of record on projects totalling about $420M in construction value. Designs steel, concrete, and mass timber structures from schematic through construction administration, has delivered 26 projects with 0 structural change orders attributable to design error, and cut steel tonnage 12% on a 14-storey office tower through a performance-based lateral design. Engineers structures that are safe by the code and efficient by the numbers, and can explain both to an architect in 5 minutes.
Coursework in Earthquake Engineering, Advanced Steel and Concrete Design, Structural Dynamics, and Finite Element Analysis.
Also completed a mass timber design course in 2022 and holds a certification in performance-based seismic design earned in 2024.
- Serve as engineer of record on 14 commercial, institutional, and multi-family projects totalling about $420M in construction value at a 70-person structural firm.
- Delivered 26 projects since 2021 with 0 structural change orders attributable to design error and an average of 3 structural plan check comments per permit submission.
- Cut steel tonnage 12% on a 14-storey office tower through a performance-based lateral design, saving about $1.6M in structural cost and 900 tonnes of embodied carbon.
- Designed gravity and lateral systems for 18 projects including 6 mid-rise residential buildings and 4 schools under 2 principal engineers.
- Led the structural design of a 5-storey mass timber office building, the first for the firm, with 0 construction issues on 1,100 connections.
- Built a Revit and RISA workflow that cut framing plan production time 30% and was adopted by 12 engineers.
- Produced calculations for 40 steel beams and 20 connections on a 3-storey office building during a 14-week internship.
- Built an Excel design tool for composite beams that cut calculation time about 50% and was checked and adopted by the team.
- Received a full-time offer at the end of the 14-week internship based on the composite beam tool.
14-Storey Office Tower. Led the structural design of a 14-storey, 380,000 square foot steel office tower with a buckling-restrained braced frame lateral system, using nonlinear response history analysis on 11 ground motion pairs and a peer review process over 8 months, which cut steel tonnage 12% against the prescriptive design, saved about $1.6M, and passed peer review with 4 comments.
University Science Building. Served as engineer of record on a 6-storey, $95M concrete laboratory building with vibration-sensitive floors designed to a 2,000 micro-inch per second criterion, long-span post-tensioned slabs, and a 40-foot cantilevered lecture hall, which was delivered with 0 structural change orders and met the vibration criterion on 100% of 30 tested bays.
Mass Timber Office Building. Led the structural design at a previous firm of a 5-storey cross-laminated timber office building with a steel braced frame core, developing 20 standard connection details and a fire design approach with the code official, which delivered 0 construction issues on 1,100 connections and a 6-week erection of the timber structure.
- Member of a structural engineers association, serving on the seismic committee since 2022.
- Volunteer post-earthquake building evaluator, trained and on call since 2020.
- Guest lecturer for a university steel design course twice a year.
- Lead project teams of 3 to 5 engineers and drafters on 14 active projects with fee and schedule responsibility.
- Mentor 4 junior engineers through licensure preparation, with 3 passing the PE exam since 2022.
- Present structural options and cost comparisons to architects and owners at 3 milestones on every project.
